The infinite city

1. Generative loop system

As the city gets more and more dense, there are certain programs that need to be relocated. The infinity city is one of the near-future solutions that can absorb this residue or exodus. Since the city is constructed on the mobius strip, there is no distinction between up and down and no limit. This is basic concept of ‘generative loop system’ which brings variety of space and program.
First of all, I started with single surface, and I overlapped offseted one and deformed one on top of each other. This is the moment that the triple layered surface is ready to be injected by basic components according to accumulated data. Finally, these overlapped data and basic components are ready to be injected into the base infrastructure. Each cell has a surrogate and these two pairs interact with each other and share information.

2. Cell

In the infinite city, there are four different types of cell, which is daily cells, green cells, culture cells, and consumption cells. Each cell has its own function and movement.
a. Daily cell: residential and office tower, daily activities are occurring vertically
b. Green cell: vertical farm, urban lung to generate clean air and refuse disposal
c. Culture cell: entertainment, events and community
d. Consumption cell: retails, shops
Each cell starts shaping, taking, and grouping selfishly. There is no physical communication with each other. However, data is originated from the center and is subconsciously connected.

3. Movement

The infinite city is a situational model which represents modern or future citizen’s life based on movements. It is constructed based on the mobius, main structure and infrastructure, which mainly control horizontal movements, such as transportation, pipe lines, and communities. On the other hand, each cell has its own vertical movement which connects daily activities. These two movements are interconnected, weaving together. Most of the time, people spend their time on vertical movement within each cell and it is enough for the day. However, any cell can survive without horizontal movements which will provide essential element of living.
Normally, people are just repeating daily activities, moving vertically in-between working and living area within one cell. But, sometimes it’s worth to get off the repetitive vertical movements, and move into horizontal movements. By doing so, people can have more chance to meet a variety of excitement and events, beyond just repeating daily routine activities.

4. Location

The infinite city can be situated on top of existing urban infrastructures, such as highwayd, airports, ports, high-rises, and so on. The city works by itself, or it could parasite or symbiosis with the existing urban fabric.

5. Energy

The infinite city has a self-generating system; it doesn’t need an outer energy source, it is a self-sustainable city. In order to get sufficient energy or resources, the city has a system to generate and collect power.
